We founded Sahara’s in 2002 with the objective of serving a variety of traditional Turkish dishes to the diverse population of New York City. As 4 siblings from a small mountain village in Eastern Turkey, we had to learn the business from scratch.
We spent years in Istanbul and other urban centers of Turkey to learn the art of culinary cuisine, and we were able to reach New York and open Sahara’s with the cozy & comfy atmosphere it has today. "How is it possible I've never reviewed my favorite east side Turkish spot? I have been here and ordered from here so many times and every time was a hit. I've also hosted parties in their restaurant and they've done outside catering for me. They always delivered 100% literally and figuratively.
The most delicious thing on their menu is so many things. But the best-best is Ishkander kebob. I've had it at many places and it's the best here. The salads are always great, too, especially the Shepard and Mediterranean salads. The salads are so good, they're actually better than the fried appetizers, like falafel and zucchini pancakes. All are wonderful.
Do yourself a favor and order one custard and one rice pudding for dessert. Don't ignore the baklava, either. And compliment these amazing desserts ONLY with a Turkish coffee or tea."
